Heavy Ceiling at Hope Bay, November 2013 – Pender Island Art

Heavy Ceiling at Hope Bay, November 2013

“Heavy Ceiling at Hope Bay, November 2013”
acrylic on canvas

This is a painting I completed a couple of weeks ago. We were out on the coast and had our share of days with stormy skies. While we were down at Hope Bay it was particularly dark and dreary; a real wet west coast day. I actually quite like days like this, there is a nice atmosphere about them. Days like this are quiet and you generally have beaches to yourself while everyone else huddles inside, and I really like empty beaches.

I approached this painting differently from my usual ways of working. Painting on location wasn’t an option with the rain coming down so I took a few pictures on my husband’s iPad. From there I was able to take the image back to our house and work on it over the course of a few evenings. Working from an iPad is interesting as you can’t dissect every little detail like you can with a photograph; I found I was working more with the impression of the scene rather than getting caught up in little details.

I quite love this painting. It is one of those paintings that just has the “right vibe”.

If you wish to view images taken on the same day, pop by my other blog, www.islandhomeblog.wordpress.com and check out the post called “Heavy Ceiling at Hope Bay – Pender Island, BC, Canada”.
