Flowers in black and white. A different way to view our natural world. Seeing form over color. An artistic way to interpret our gardens. Seeing things differently, that is what photography should be about.

This seemed like the perfect spot for a night shot. Stars, mountains, reflections and moving lights. It was worth the frozen fingers to capture this starry night.

Big Hill Springs Provincial Park provides an abundance of beauty. Falling water and bubbling brooks at every turn. An oasis in the middle of the prairies.
Those following this blog or visiting the website may have noticed I have been adding a few landscape images here and there. I am currently planning to redo the site (over the next several months) in which I also profile the other styles of photography I engage in. While portraiture is the basis for the bulk of the photography I create for Hunter Photographics, each year I also take tens of thousands of landscape and nature images. I have decided it is time for the site to more accurately reflect the whole range of the type of work I do.
In the coming months you will be seeing, in addition to the usual portrait photography, landscapes, cities, still life, lifestyle and product photography. Re-creating a site is a daunting task but I think the end result will be well worth it.

Sometimes nature provides you with amazing subject matter. A chance sighting of orcas off the coast made for a wonderful opportunity for photography. Two adults and one small whale played off the coast of Galiano (BC, Canada) for a few minutes before swimming off. It is always exciting to see a dorsal fin in the distance, but whales viewed up close are quite a treat.
The second picture just sums up the west coast. Rocky coastline, casual whale watchers, navigational marker, ferry in the distance and a whale. All the elements of the Gulf Islands in one image.
Over the coming months I am planning to add more and more nature photography to the website as I sift through the thousands upon thousands of nature photographs taken in the past year or two. I think you will find that this will make the website much more interesting, diverse and fun to read.

Covered with tracks, land shadows and a beaver lodge in the distance, the Gaetz Lakes show their beauty in the winter months.
