Black and White – A Portrait of Togetherness

blog bw sample crop _5368

Sometimes the strength of an image is in the details.

Yesterday I was editing this photography shoot and came across this image. I noticed what a strong image of togetherness this image was when cropped tightly. Timeless coupledom captured.

Winter Portrait and a Return To Black and White

winter portrait

As spring is just around the corner, I thought I would show one of my favorite winter portraits while the snow is still on the ground. Reflecting my current preference for shooting, the image is in timeless black and white.

I find myself returning more and more to black and white, returning to the style of photography that made me fall in love with the medium. Perhaps this is how it often goes. We start out in photography for love, then twist what we do to meet our clients needs in order to make a living, but in the end we find we need to return to the style of shooting we love. It seems I am slowly completing that circle, black and white is coming to the forefront plus an interesting (non-commercial) project in its infancy. Stripping away all the fakeness of photoshopped images in their over-processed ways, and going back to the basics, photography is becoming interesting again.

Fresh Portrait, Freshly Painted Studio

studio portrait red deer gray_9633 aThe  studio has now been freshly painted in crisp neutral grays. Every so often I like to change the look of the studio, it keeps shooting more interesting and images more modern.

At present I am enjoying shooting a rather stripped down style in the studio. Less focus on props and gimics, and more of a focus on the person being photographed.

I love the classic look with a casual twist. Images that will hold up to the test of time. Presenting the best aspects of studio portraiture, great posing and lighting and a finely finished image.
