Trending Up Business Photography

business photography_0165 retouched blur 32015 has been a great year for business photography. Not only are clients requiring classic head shots, but they are also needing images for websites. Shooting images for websites is the most enjoyable part of business photography. People want fresh, up to date and eye catching images. This makes for a great experience for photography where trying something new is the order of the day.

Fresh Business Portraits – Hunter Photographics

blog business portrait_9951

In the last few weeks I have been shooting a lot of business portraits and head shots. Sometimes all a customer requires for a business head shot is a straight forward “head and shoulders” image. However recently I am finding that my customers are interested in having a more personalized look for the portraits they use on their business cards, brochures and on-line. This makes for fun shooting sessions and images that are really interesting and stretch beyond the standard head shot.

This image has been created  for Coaching for Solutions in Red Deer, Alberta. I am looking forward to seeing the fresh new images on-line on their website.

Knit Collection

blog knit items_9716 a

Today’s image is of a small collection of the knit items I create. The items include Coffee Sweaters, Coffee Mug Sweaters, Coffee Press Sweaters, Coffee Carpets, Wine Wraps, and fingerless mitts.

All items are hand knit and made of 100% Canadian produced wool that is milled in Alberta. The wool is hand dyed in natural dyes that I craft by hand; some of the dyes, such as marigold, I grow in my garden.

I photographed this image for use in a collective I am in the process of forming. I will share the details of the project here once all the details are finalized.

Items are available from me directly through the website, at Sunworks (Red Deer, Alberta) and at the Whyte Gallery Shop (Banff, Alberta, Canada).

One Image Four Ways – Studio Photography – Red Deer, Alberta

Each year I photograph many head shots. I thought in today’s post I would share a few different looks you can achieve from the same head shot image. The vast majority of the head shots I do are shot for use in websites, for business cards or publications. Many are the classic business portrait. Sometimes, however, it is nice to alter the classic image just a little to make it more eye catching and fresh, especially on-line where a picture that is a little different makes people stop and look.

The first image is a classic color studio image shot against a grey background, grey is a nice neutral to use as a background, especially if the shot will be used in different applications.

The second image is again in color but a bit desaturated. This gives a fresher more modern look.

The third image is even more desaturated plus has increased contrast. This creates a more stylized image as it is floating between color and black and white.

The final image is black and white. Always a favorite. Timeless and classic.

I always like it when a business portrait is altered just a little for on-line use. The image seems to have more personality and makes the image stand out.

Fingerless Mitts – New Hand Knit Items – Handcrafted in Red Deer, Alberta (Canada)

blog fingerless mitts_9320A brand new pair of fingerless mitts has just been completed. The mitts are made of 100% Canadian produced wool that has been hand dyed in natural dyes (marigold and madder).

blog fingerless mitts_9323Four color stranded knitting makes for lively patterning and a bit of fun.

blog fingerless mitts_9315These fingerless mitts give an almost full thumb coverage, plus coverage to the beginning of the fingernails allowing for maximum warmth while still having fingertips available for texting or using a camera.

The past week has been great for knitting and crochet. I am working on some new home items plus building up a supply of Coffee Sweaters for either the next order or perhaps to finally get a shop up on-line, one of the goals for 2015.

Wedding Photography Packages – Red Deer, Alberta

As January is the month for wedding photography inquiries, I thought I would share the packages and pricing for wedding photography on the blog to make the information readily available.

The Concept

The wedding is one of the bride’s and groom’s most important days of their life. We believe the photography should reflect the couple’s relationship. We believe that their wedding day photography should be carried out in an enjoyable, stress free environment and be carried out in a time efficient manner. For these reasons we have chosen to focus on a wedding coverage that is for the bride and groom only.

Our goal is to provide beautiful photography for the wedding couple. We can tailor the style of photography to be anything from classical portraiture to a journalistic look, but at the end of the day the couple will have a lovely selection of fine art wedding photographs. Our goal is to provide memorable images to last a lifetime in this age of disposable iPhone photos. Our goal is to provide photography to couples who take photography as seriously as we do.

How The Packages Work

The wedding photography industry has become notorious for having complicated packages so that the wedding couples have no idea what they are really paying for. My all time favorite is the “minimum investment” system, which has all the vibes of a used car salesman.

We decided we want to make the packages as simple as possible. Our packages are for a set time frame; one package is a one and a half hour time frame, the other package is a two-hour time frame. During the photography session we shoot an unlimited number of images, and photograph in an unlimited number of locations. The packages have a specific number of enlargements included, all are the most popular sizes we sell, and all enlargements are fully retouched.

Our goal is a simple and refined system for wedding photography.
