Red Deer Child Photographer – Vintage Memories

vintage style child photograph, red deer, alberta

This shoot was a little different. It was a shoot I did purely because I needed an image to work an illustration from. This illustrating project is proving to be quite interesting with sketching subject matter that I would rarely tackle otherwise; it has been a good challenge.

As the illustrations are essentially for a memoir, I went for a vintage feel with the photograph. I wanted the image to be timeless, gentle and sweet. The images certainly fill that criteria. Even beyond that, the image makes for a beautiful art portrait, one that could be displayed framed for years and never seem dated.

Red Deer Child Photographer – Children in the Park

child photography in park - red deer, alberta

This photography session in Coronation Park (Red Deer, Alberta) presented perfect shooting conditions. Warm weather. Slightly diffused light. Lots of smiles. Everyone was in great spirits, and aren’t those just the happiest red shoes you have ever seen. (The little guy was quite attached to them!)

We have two, maybe three weeks of leaves left on the trees. It is great to be taking of advantage of the beautiful scenery and shoot portraits outside. In a week’s time we will be shooting with golden backdrops of fall leaves.

Red Deer Child Photographer – Back to School

back to school portrait

September is the month of change. Vacations are over, days become shorter, the leaves change color, and children are back to school. One thing I notice with my own children is that September is also the month that I notice my children have changed. Some how over the summer they have become bigger and older (and cuter!). Now that the first week of school is behind us and families are back to regular routines, it is a great time to think about family photography. This is a great time to capture just how much a child has changed over the summer.

Nowadays ” Back to School ” covers many different styles of learning. Some children go to a school, some cyber-school and other children are home schooled. This year we thought we would extend an invitation to any cyber-school or home school groups that may be interested in arranging an afternoon group session for “back to school” pictures. Please give Debra a call at 403-588-4032 or send us an email and we can tailor a sitting to suit your group’s needs.

Red Deer Photographer – Fall Photography Special

red deer child photography

It’s that time of year again, summer is winding down, children are back to school, and everyone is thinking about having pictures done before winter arrives. September is one of the best months for outdoor photography, the backgrounds are colorful, the temperatures are mild, and the weather usually co-operates (unlike October where the weather seems to have a bit of an attitude).

It has been a little while since I have put on a “photography special” so I have decided September would be a great month for one. Here’s the special!

September Photography Special

– valid Monday to Friday after 5:30 pm
– available from September 9th to 30th

All sitting fees for photography sessions of 1 to 8 people are only $30.00.

(Regular sitting fees range from $75.00 to $105.00 so this is the time to save money and have a photography session done.)

The special is valid for on location, in studio or a combination. Please give us a call or text at 403-588-4032, or send us an email at hunterphotographics@ shaw.ca for more details.

Red Deer Photographer – Urban Portrait

urban portrait

This is an image from just a few hours ago. Urban shoots are always a lot of fun. Gritty back alleys. Relaxed posing. No rules. Urban shooting is made for black and white; it just works.

I’ll share a few more images from this shoot in the coming days. It was a pretty cool shoot of this teenage boy.

Red Deer Child Photographer – Portrait By The Lake

Photo shoot at Lake Isle, AlbertaPhoto shoot at Lake Isle, AlbertaI love it when I have the opportunity to shoot at a cottage or cabin location. There is something refreshing about how informal the shoot is. It is a relaxed atmosphere with backgrounds of water and trees and docks. The shoot is all about capturing the favorite moments of summer, the time at the lake, and the time with your family……what could be better!

Interested in a photo shoot at your cottage or cabin? We photograph in the Red Deer area year round, but are also available for the Parkland County and Lac Ste. Anne County area during cabin season. We also are available for shoots on Pender Island, BC 6-10 times a year (please give us a call for exact dates).

Red Deer Photographer – Commercial – Middle C

middle c border blog

This is an image from an ongoing project that I am currently working on. I find photographing objects to be a really enjoyable type of work. You have all the time in the world to play with lighting and angles; still life photography truly has the possibility of being an art form.

One of my first jobs in photography after graduating from college was working for a commercial photography firm in England that specialized in product shots. We would spend days building sets and hours lighting the subject to get the perfect image. It was all about the details to get the perfect shot. The project I am working on is allowing me to return to that type of work and it is turning out to be more enjoyable than I have ever imagined.

Red Deer Photographer – New Studio Photography

This portion of the studio is just finished being repainted providing a whole new and fresh look for shooting. The area was previously painted in dark blues with a dark floor, so the minimalist earth tones with a lighter floor is quite a refreshing change.

The simplistic background and lighter tones create a modern feel  as more and more families aim for relaxed and casual studio portraits.

This particular section of studio will easily accommodate groups of up to 10 people for photography. If a larger group requires studio photography, our studio area with risers and white doors has accommodated a group of 22 people.

Yellow – photography in Red Deer, Alberta

canola portrait 4Yellow is definitely a summer color. It is the color of sunshine in a child’s drawing, lemonade, and if you live in central Alberta, canola. Yellow fields are everywhere this time of year and they are one of my favorite backgrounds to shoot against. Canola fields lend themselves to relaxed and natural portraits and are perfect to capture moments of a child’s exploration.
